Her (2013)

Starring: Joaquin Phoenix, Scarlett Johansson, Amy Adams, Rooney Mara, Chris Pratt

Plot: After an ugly divorce, Theodore develops a relationship with his operating system, Samantha.

Rating: 10/10

Overall: There are so many beautiful and incredible things that this film brings to us—as a society and as individuals living in said society. It truly grasps the severity of our reliance on technology and how our interpersonal connections are built through telecommunication rather than physically social interactions. It’s also beautiful in the sense that you take an unlikely scenario: a man who just went through a divorce, and pair him with a female, operating system that offers him unbiased opinions, is full of information and is physically incapable of providing him a tangible truth. It’s a film that forces you to question oneself, others and the society as a whole.
